Assignment/Activity
Title— 5x5 Year—Sophomore
Skill— interpretation, communication Portfolio Category— Media and
Communications
In the 5x5 assignment we were
supposed to convey a theme by using 5 unedited 5 second clips. We could not add
any sound effects or use any filters. We also had to use the original sound.
When Mr. Mayo introduced this project, I already knew what I wanted to do. I
have always been fascinated with the sky.
However, during this assignment I
faced many problems. I knew that to capture the true beauty of the sky, it
would have been best to use a professional camera and tripod. I did not have
either of these items. I could have borrowed them, however; I decided not to
because I knew it would be a lot to carry with my field hockey equipment. I
also was not to comfortable taking a professional camera and tripod around my
community. In the end I ended up using my phone.
If I could do the 5x5 over again, I
would get better shots. During my night shot, it was raining; therefore, one
could not see the true beauty of the night sky also the sound of the rain
detracted from the peaceful tone I was thinking of when I was originally
planning. I also did my shots vertically instead of horizontally, which also
detract from the overall look. In total, the video did not reflect my prior
knowledge about film making from CAP and the Humanities program at Eastern.
Despite these problems, I got an A
on the assignment. I do not believe I earned this grade; however, I still feel
that this assignment is important. I have learned from my mistakes and now will
make a conscious effort not to do them again.
